St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lorugum Parish
St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lorugum is found in the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar. It started in the year 1962 at the place called Logogo as a feeding center due to the severe drought that affected the entire Turkana County in the year 1962.
This mission was started by missionaries of St. Patrick from Ireland with Fr. Leo Kevin Brewony and late Bishop Mahon as Monsignor. Other priests who worked in this parish are Frs. Okhalagan, Anthony Barret, Tom Lavan, Desmon Miller, Tim Brendy and John Kunan.
In 1994, Fr. Con Ryan became the parish priest till 2001 when Fr. Ludwig Van Bussel, SMA took over the parish till 2014 and Fr. Ephraim Kway, SMA became the parish priest to date.
Religious Sisters
St. Peter parish had 29 active stations. The last out-station was Urum which is 90km from the main parish. In March 2018 this parish was split and Namoruputh (one of St. Peter’s out-station) became a parish. At the moment Lorugum parish has 19 out-stations and 25 small Christian communities.

Mass Schedule
On weekdays we have 3 Turkana masses in the Small Christian Communities (SCC). We also have 3 weekday masses for the schools; 2 for secondary and 1 for primary.
Also we have weekday masses for the sisters’ convent and masses in the out-stations. Every day we visit the out-stations – an average of two out-stations per day. On Sundays, we have 2 masses in the main station (Swahili and Turkana)
Statistics
Lorugum is one of the biggest parishes in Turkana. There are two congregations of Sisters (Sisters of Mary of Kakamega and Ursuline Sisters).
The area has one Health center, 6 dispensaries, 2 secondary schools, 18 primary schools and about 40 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres.
There are several groups/organizations active in the parish, such as CWA, YCS, PMC, PMU, Welfare Association, Adult teachers, ECD teachers, Justice And Peace Commission, Choir, Mass Servers.
